I found out about Genpachi thanks to some guy on Tabelog who had posted an enormous number of the good places in this neighborhood. People like that make my life a lot richer.

At night it’s a pricey unagi restaurant, but at lunchtime they serve a reasonably priced set.

The pickles at a renowned old place really are on another level.

aji fry

Crispy, richly flavored aji fry. It was so good it took me by surprise. If you can eat a set meal like this for 750 yen, that’s satisfaction right there. At the table behind me, some gentlemen who looked like department heads or directors at a big company had ordered the 1,600-yen unagi donburi and were working through a cup of hot atsukan sake in the middle of the day… I really like this kind of atmosphere, so easygoing.

The rice was excellent too. Besides the aji fry, the salmon and the other dishes looked good as well, so I want to become a regular here.
