Shinsunggak, famous for its hand-pulled jjajangmyeon, is a pretty well-known place, but somehow I’d never thought of coming. I found out it’s only a short ride away on a Ttareungi, so I paid it a visit.

Eating it, I found it’s a mild, low-key style. Not a big impact, but the kind of taste you’d be happy to eat often — though the line is so long I don’t think I’ll be able to come often. Besides, these days I’ve started frying up chunjang at home and making jjajangmyeon myself..

And.. I really don’t get why people bring their kids to a cramped, popular place like this with no service staff and a long line.. on top of that, it was freezing cold that day. The kids were clearly having a hard time, so was it really worth it.. And it’s not as if the kids were saying they absolutely had to have hand-pulled jjajangmyeon today.. Well.. it’s cheap, so if you’re feeding several people it does save money, I suppose..

I slowly made my way over toward Hongdae, and there’s a Publique in a newly built building. A bakery seems to be a given now..

I went to buy a pouch, and there’s nowhere else like it in Korea.. I think it’s because the pouches themselves are cheap, but it’s hard to find a place that just sells pouches. Marimekko?
