After breakfast at the Grand Hyatt, I moved straight over to the Paradise City hotel next door. It really is enormous and beautifully done up. Plenty of good places to eat, too. I suspect it’s all aimed at pulling in casino guests from China, which is why it feels so over-the-top glitzy. Less somewhere you come to rest, more somewhere you come to play.
Anyway, since I’d just had a big breakfast, a full-on meal felt like a bit much, so I went to Born & Bred for a light katsu sando.
The table
Banchan
I had a look at the menu, and you’d need something like 250,000 won a head to really eat beef properly here. For what is arguably the best beef restaurant in the country that isn’t an unreasonable price, but the question remains: do you have to go all the way to Incheon for it?
Onion soup
The flavor was a bit unusual — not the French style, and rather sweet. Not that it was bad, it just wasn’t to my taste.
Tenderloin katsu sando
The fries were good too…
Close-up
The beef was incredibly tender. It felt like the ultimate katsu sando. It costs a fair bit, but it’s a taste you really should try once.
Rice noodle soup
I think this was the half size. Hmm… this one wasn’t Vietnamese either, more a Korean-arranged version. It’s not bad, but it left me thinking, why bother?
Inside
It’s upmarket, and unlike the main branch you can eat beef here without a reservation, which is a big plus. As long as you can round up a group and get yourself to Incheon.
Beef in the aging fridge
It looks great as decor, too.
