Gwangseong Banjeom in Gongneung is famous for two things: its food, and the fact that it only opens at night.
The front entrance
It’s on the opposite side of the forest trail. Not hard to find.
Gan-jjajang
Instead of the sauce coming separately, it arrives already stir-fried together. Well… the flavor was outstanding. Best gan-jjajang of my life. Come to think of it, even Chapagetti gets a final stir-fry at the end, so why does gan-jjajang come with the sauce on the side…
The basic side dishes
Sprinkled on a bit of chili powder too…
It can get monotonous, so it’s probably best to add it after eating about half… I think I put in too much this time…
Japchae-bap
It comes served over fried rice, and the portion is enormous. I wondered if I could finish it all, but it was so good it vanished in no time. The japchae was like a stir-fried jjamppong too.
According to the connoisseurs, japchae-bap used to come on a fried rice base as a matter of course, but these days few places stick to the basics. They also say jjajangmyeon only tastes right when it’s fried in lard… Seems like there’s no choice but to seek out the places that do it properly…
Soup
Fried rice confirmed…
At a Chinese restaurant you need a group to order a bit of everything, but these days I’m going solo… No idea when the team will assemble again… Everyone’s so busy…
