Work was so busy this summer that I couldn’t get out to drink whisky at all. About the most I managed was heading to Campbeltown Loch whenever The Whisky Hoop released something interesting.

GlenDronach 1993 and 1994

I liked the 93, but it seems plenty of people prefer the 94. I guess there are folks who just don’t get excited by that classic GlenDronach profile. I haven’t drunk enough of it to be that jaded, so if the 93 goes on general sale I’m going to pick one up.

Cragganmore

A seriously expensive whisky. The official bottling runs 3,000 to 4,000 yen, which is very cheap, but hardly any of the limited editions come in under 30,000 yen. It tasted good, but whether it’s worth drinking at that price is another question.

Tomatin 1976

A legendary vintage whisky.

The tag

There’s a slightly tropical note to it, and apparently that’s the signature of Tomatin 76. It’s a flavor you just don’t find in whisky these days. Not that it’s leagues better than modern whisky, mind you.. (the Caol Ila I had a while back was truly outstanding.) If it were cheap I’d be collecting it, but Tomatin 76 has gotten far too expensive lately, so I’ll keep on just looking.
