Someone was suddenly coming over to the house, so I searched for dessert shops near home, and a place called Izumi caught my eye. Apparently it’s right next to Hamamatsucho Station, but I’d been around there so many times and had never seen anything of the sort. Where on earth would a dessert shop be, in a spot lined with nothing but izakaya… So I went to see for myself, and well, it does exist.
This is the place
It’s on the 10th floor of a building right up against the station. The kind of place you’d normally expect to find an accounting office or something.

Given that the building itself is called Izumi, this must be a dessert shop run by the building’s owner!

When I went up and chatted with them, they said that decades ago they ran the shop on the 1st and 2nd floors of this building, but these days they only operate on the top floor. I guess business was good enough at one point to put up a whole building.

They use real butter, which is why a notice like this is up. I bought a few things and headed home.
Nikoniko cheesecakes
About 100 yen apiece. They’re soft and jiggly and really delicious. Top tier for this kind of cheesecake. I can see how a place like this gets regulars.
The other baked goods
The pound cake included, you could tell every single dessert was made with good ingredients used generously. Is this the power of a building owner, I wondered. The selection is small, but each and every item is first-rate. The pound cake in particular hits you with a big whiff of rum.
Desserts I bought on my next visit
This place doesn’t score all that well on Tabelog, but in reality it’s genuinely delicious. Hardly a single dessert misses. It’s close to home too, so I’ll probably be dropping by now and then.
