Menya Kissou in Kiba

Once I get hooked on something I dig all the way down, that’s just how I am, and there were two ramen shops in Tokyo I still hadn’t been to, so this time I knocked them both out in one go. There are plenty of other famous ramen spots, but the west side of Tokyo is just too far, so I gave up on those. With this trip the east side is complete, so I can sleep easy for a while.

Menya Kissou

Apparently it’s a ramen shop famous for its house-made noodles. I got there just before opening and still had to wait about 30 minutes in line.

The soup is an ordinary niboshi-style broth, but the springiness of the noodles and the way they slide down are on another level. Now I get why this place is considered one of the greats. There are so many ramen specialists popping up these days, but this one is worth the trip.
