Bistro Polpo, Bangbae-dong

These days, whenever I have a get-together on the Gangnam side, the second stop is always Polpo. Sometimes it is the first stop too. As long as they are still open, there is really no other option. It is a restaurant that suits me that well, so I end up going all the time.

Caprese

bistro polo

Nice and refreshing. I ordered it instead of a salad.

Oyster and green laver pasta

bistro polo

The rich flavour that comes from the ingredients themselves is what Polpo is all about.

Carpaccio

bistro polo

Beautiful just to look at. There is no better snack to go with red wine.

Eggplant gratin

bistro polo

Maybe because I drank a lot that night, a rich dish like this was very welcome.

Pain a la creme from Mont St. Clair, which I brought along on purpose

bistro polo

I had gone to the Banyan Tree resort the day before and bought three. One went as a gift, one I ate at home, and one I asked them to turn into a sandwich.

Tamago sandwich showered in truffle oil

bistro polo

Fantastic, as expected. This bread is so soft that it is delicious on its own, and just as good with jam or butter, but the tamago sandwich filled my mouth in a completely different way. I was thoroughly satisfied. It was quite an imposition, though, so I am not sure I can ask them again next time.

Up to then I had been going often, but lately I have had a lot going on personally and cannot make it as much as before. Things should ease up a little in February, but I am not sure I will have enough breathing room to get to Polpo even then. Life really is unpredictable. Very little goes the way you want. But rather than getting discouraged, I just have to do my best with what I can. As I always have.
