On the day I was flying back to Korea, I got up before dawn and went to Tsukiji. Maybe it was the chilly weather, but shopping the market in the morning wasn’t easy. It made me respect the people who go to the auction hall and buy up goods from early morning. After picking up the ingredients I needed, I couldn’t skip breakfast. I wondered what to eat and ended up at Kitsuneya in the outer market, a shop specializing in nikudofu and nikomi.

Nikudofu

Kitsuneya’s nikudofu, which I hadn’t had in a long while, was really sweet. Normally I might not have liked it, but after shopping on a cold morning it went down nicely.

With rice

Pick out some of the meat, then pour the leftover broth over the rice, and it turns straight into gyudon. Mixing white rice into the piping-hot broth gave a flavor that beats ordinary gyudon by a mile. It’s a place I think about now and then, so I was really glad I got to eat there this time.
