On our second morning in Jeju I got up a little earlier than our departure time and took a walk through the seaside park in Tapdong, in the old part of Jeju City. The weather stayed overcast for this whole trip — it was never hot and it made getting around easy, but not many of the photos came out well.
The park
For a tourist spot it’s pretty quiet. The mood felt a little worn compared with Sin-Jeju, the newer side of the city.

It runs straight out to the sea, so I got to look at the water around Jeju Island. Even right in the city the water was clear.

The lighthouse was farther out than I expected, but I had time to spare in the morning so I walked all the way there. Right next to it is a row of raw-fish restaurants. A light plate of sashimi around here the night before would have been nice — it would have felt like really being on Jeju — but our eating schedule was packed and there was no room for it.

Besides the seafront, there were a lot of places to eat around Tapdong. If you’re not chasing good food in particular, there’d be no real need to go far.

It sits at one end of the seaside park, and the design is cute. It felt properly touristy, so I took a picture.
The hotel I stayed at
There wasn’t a single hotel left to book on Jeju Island, so I settled on this one. It was only tourist-hotel grade, but it was close to downtown and the rate was very cheap. The money I saved by picking it let me stay in a nicer room on the second night. It was also close to our next destination, which made the second day easy.
