The owner of Mi Piace brought back an assortment of cheeses from a trip to Japan, and since he threw together a meetup to eat them, I went along. I still know very little about cheese, but it turns out there is a whole deep world in there. I think I need to study up a bit. Maybe because things were hectic that day, I never even photographed the wine I brought myself (a Riesling GG), and there are a lot of other shots I never took, like the herbal liquor someone had flown in from Russia, but anyway, here is the post.
Cheeses and mango
I can’t remember the names of the cheeses, but they all had a strong character. These are hard to gather in one place, so my palate was in for a treat.
Bread
Brought out to eat with the cheese.
Mont d’Or
The main cheese of the day, and apparently it only comes out in winter. Once it ripens it turns so rich and gooey that scooping it up with a spoon is practically the whole concept. It costs a fair bit, but it was delicious enough to earn it.
Bagna cauda sauce
I saw it plenty in Japan, but this is my first time having it in Korea. Is there anywhere in Korea that serves this? The pot was awfully cute too, and the owner told me he had brought it back from Japan himself.
Vegetables
You just dip the vegetables in the sauce. Maybe because it had been a while, it tasted even better.
Pasta
Cooked nicely al dente, with cheese on top.
Garnish
Since the cheese was the main event, we kept it simple with a single pasta and moved on to the main. The garnish is for the steak.
T-bone steak
Ta-da~ As full of presence as ever.
A portion served up
I dug right in.
Dessert
With the dessert as well, it was a satisfying meal right to the end. Mi Piace meetups never disappoint. I’m looking forward to the next one.
