This was a get-together back in the summer, so my memory’s a bit hazy. I haven’t been getting around to many proper restaurants lately, and there hasn’t been much worth posting either, but more than that I got on a roll with strength training plus a diet and was really busy, so blog updates fell way behind. I’ve now built enough muscle to bench press and squat about my own bodyweight, but going beyond that looks tough in a short time, and a few incidents (accidents) happened while I was training, so from now on I’m getting back to my usual pace.
Molto in Apgujeong hardly needs an introduction. It put on a great show this day too.
Spumante
Apparently it’s an indigenous Italian grape. The taste is, hmm.. hard to describe, but personally I prefer the Chardonnay I’m used to.
Assorted antipasti
Prosciutto and melon, soup in a cup, chorizo someone brought along, tortellini, burrata with tomato, and ham rolled around vegetables, they said. Pretty standard.
Antipasto 2
Grilled abalone with paprika, lobster risotto and grilled white fish. A bit more luxurious this time.
Aji (horse mackerel) pasta
Aji or saba (mackerel) made into pasta tastes to die for. Personally I like more fish, something like half fish, half noodles, but restaurants usually won’t do that, so now and then I buy the ingredients and make it at home.
Two kinds of steak
Grilled beef tenderloin and crumbed lamb. Their signature dish. I liked that they tried all sorts of things this day.
Dessert: crème brûlée
Keeping dessert light..
Birthday cake.
An Ispahan cake from Amandier. As expected it wasn’t easy to cut, and it looks like Pierre Hermé’s but the taste falls a bit short.
Gucci chocolates
A dessert gift I brought along.
Hakushu 18
I bought this at Haneda Airport, and the peat was stronger than I expected. Compared with Yamazaki 18 it was just a lot less satisfying. Same price, too -_- a real letdown..
A bunny made from Gucci ribbon
This is how we have fun…
Park Hyatt’s bingsu combination
After eating and drinking well at Molto we moved to the Park Hyatt nearby. They had a half-size menu that comes with half patbingsu and half berry bingsu, so we ordered that. The lounge has a really cool vibe (the night view is amazing), but the patbingsu was a bit pricey. It’s a hotel, so I guess you have to expect that.
Berry bingsu
It tasted fine, but to my taste it wasn’t really worth the money. Probably because there are plenty of good patbingsu places at that price. The vibe is very cool, though, so it’s worth going once in a while.
