A friend threw a housewarming and invited me and a few others. With the property market in chaos these days, he’s living in a really nice place ^_^
Wine is his hobby, so a few bottles got opened.
Perfectly drinkable. I’ve got no interest in furniture so I wouldn’t know, but apparently the table is an expensive one. Come to think of it, I’ve been taking a break from wine meetups lately. These days I’m more drawn to whisky than wine, but for sipping lightly with a meal nothing beats wine.
Salad
I was told the mushrooms scattered over the salad took quite a lot of work. Home cooking is hard..
Takeout guo bao rou
It was a BYOB get-together, so a friend picked this up on the way. Not bad for a neighbourhood Chinese place.
Kkanpunggi (sweet and spicy fried chicken)
This one was just so-so too..
Pasta as thin as somen
The noodles were on the thin side and went soft quickly, which was a bit of a shame, but the sauce had clearly been simmered for hours, and it was a delicious pasta. The ingredients looked like they cost a bit too. I’ve never cooked anything at home that takes longer than 30 minutes, so I’m jealous.
Fruit for dessert..
That was plenty of food, so we went straight on to the fruit.
Cheese
You need cheese to polish off the wine.
Toraya yokan, sold only at Haneda Airport
I brought this yokan, and it’s delicious. Especially the limited-edition red one, Sora no Tabi. It was so good I’m thinking of buying more.
Japanese sweet chestnuts
They’re far sweeter than Chinese or Korean ones. I brought back a lot, but they’re all gone now.
