Saturday morning means a visit to Tsukiji Market. Tsukiji on a weekend is packed with tourists, but I didn’t pick another day, and I didn’t go early either. As long as you dodge the tourists, you can take it nice and easy.
Still, having come all the way to Tsukiji, I’ve got to have a round of sushi, right? Today’s sushi shop is Sushisei, which has quite a name around here.

The freshness is good and so is the knife work, but… well… it doesn’t really grab me. Aji only tastes right when it’s from a live fish, and the suzuki should have been cut a bit thicker and plunged into ice water so you can enjoy that distinctive chew. But if I grumbled like that I’d only get called a weirdo -_-; So I ate it all without complaint. The only pity is that it isn’t cheap, even though it’s Tsukiji; the taste wasn’t bad. The freshness seemed better managed than at its rival in the same business, Sushizanmai.
The lunch special sushi
Compared to Sushizanmai it’s about the same or slightly better, but next to the sushi I had last night it falls well short. The rice especially is a big letdown. It’s not a place in the same league, so I don’t have much to say about this either…
For reference, not all the sushi at Sushizanmai is good; only the tuna and the anago are especially tasty. Keep that in mind when you go…
After a hearty breakfast, I look for a café to clear my palate.
