Joël Robuchon, a French Restaurant in Ebisu part.1

I’m playing hooky from work on a weekday morning, and my steps feel incredibly light. Can you guess where I’m headed?
The destination is in Ebisu’s Garden Place.

So.. figured it out yet? It’s Joël Robuchon, made all the more famous by its three Michelin stars! It takes up the whole of that gorgeous building you can see in the back. Plenty of foreign restaurants have come to Japan — Alain Ducasse, Pierre Gagnaire, Gordon Ramsay and more — but this is the only one that got three stars, which makes it all the more impressive.
Maybe because I ran hard, I made it in time for my reservation. ^_^
First, an aperitif

Champagne. It seemed to be the by-the-glass champagne, but it’s pretty good. Clean, with some body too.
This was the champagne.

Table setting

Naturally, the atmosphere is very upscale. Not so much that I couldn’t get my food down, though ^_^
The glasses.

Just for your reference..

Freshly baked baguette comes out first of all.

Ah, even the bread is moving. I finished one in no time. The timing is so hard to get right that I’d never once had a warm, freshly baked baguette until now, and my first one was at Joël Robuchon.. Though only the very first one is warm; after that they come out cold.
The butter.

The bread was so moving that I hardly needed the butter. This butter will come into its own later.
The interior..

Luxurious, right? The room wasn’t as big as I expected. Probably to keep up the quality of the meals..
There are a lot of photos, so I’m splitting this up. The real cooking starts in the next post.
