This weekend I went to a DJ event featuring Nomoto Karia. Truth is, I didn’t go for Karia at all; I went because Groove Anchan, the leader of NovaFASE and a super fantastic DJ, was coming.. (really!) First a local DJ, DJ Kaori, warmed up the crowd with house beats, and from 11 o’clock Groove Anchan got properly into her set. The place went absolutely wild.. Right at the peak, when a capsule track came on, everyone was losing their minds. Around 1 a.m. Karia came out, sang three songs and danced along to Anchan’s set, then did a techno DJ set of her own. She’s a former model, tall and slim, so her performance was worth watching, but the DJing was pretty average. After Karia’s set ran for about an hour, a local DJ took over with more techno. He was seriously good. I don’t think I ever saw a DJ this good back in Korea. If the music’s no good you just can’t get into it, and in that sense the overall level of Japanese clubs is really high. Well.. maybe if I went to a club in Korea again I’d find plenty of talented people have come up since then..
I bought a record signed by Anchan, but oh no.. it’s an LP.. no wonder the sleeve was so big.. I’ll buy a turntable someday, but that looks like a story for the very distant future, sadly. Well.. I’ve got a few records like that at home already, so I’ll just have to wait..
Apparently HALFBY is coming to where I live in December. (Yes! THE HALFBY!) I’m hugely looking forward to it.
