It’s summer and I was feeling a bit run-down, so I went looking for something restorative and ended up at Lamb House, a lamb specialty restaurant in Bangbae-dong. I ate plenty of eel in Japan, but it doesn’t seem to have done much for me ^_^ Maybe I need to try soft-shell turtle next…

It’s right in front of Naebang Station as you come out… very easy to find.

The portion was more generous than I expected. It seemed like you get even more than with beef.
Today’s wine
A wine from Tuscany. I bought it by mail order in Japan, and it felt like it hadn’t been stored very well… I bought it because it was cheap, but from now on I think I should buy from a proper wine shop. (Or maybe I should just splurge on a wine cellar…) It tasted fine, though, and went well with the lamb.
The meat from before gets cut up and turns into this.
Delicious. None of lamb’s usual gamy smell, either. (Personally, I found that a little disappointing…)

We moved on to a friend’s place and opened the wine we’d set aside.
Château Pape Clément 1996
A great Bordeaux vintage, and a Parker score of 94, which is pretty impressive. Plus, a ’96 is just now entering its drinking window… It tasted quite refined, and you could feel the terroir typical of Graves wines… (It’s also a wine recommended by the author of The Drops of God, which I’ve been reading avidly lately ^_^) But it felt like something was missing. It fell short of what you’d expect at this price. Something… is lacking, but I can’t tell what it is… I think I’ll have to keep drinking it to find out.

(I’ve finally reached the age where I can no longer say I’m in my twenties. Sigh. Well… personally I’m taking it calmly… I still think your thirties are part of your youth… I have a feeling I won’t be making a fuss over birthdays for a while, though…)
