The road had been freshly paved. On Google Maps it showed up unpaved, and I thought, wait, what kind of IT company is out here? But once I actually arrived, the road was nicely paved, the buildings were reasonably intact, and cars were driving around just fine. That is good enough for me.

The buildings are newer and more modern than I expected.

Rural India has become quite modern. I suppose it means India has been developing in every corner lately. If Madurai, almost at the southern tip, is like this, the whole country is probably in the same state..
