Nodeulgang at Yeongdong Market in Sinnonhyeon

Nodeulgang

This is a place I had wanted to try for ages, and I finally got to go thanks to a junior colleague who came over from the States. These days even getting to a good restaurant is no easy thing.

Side dishes

They lay out a full Namdo-style (Jeolla region) spread and every dish is good. The steamed skate in particular cleared my sinuses right out.

Mineo (croaker) sashimi

Another year, another plate of croaker.

Maesaengi (fine green seaweed) soup

Croaker bulgogi

Stir-fried nice and spicy, it went perfectly with soju.

Croaker jeon, pan-fried fillets

Jeon really is the best way to eat croaker

Mineo-tang, croaker soup

The broth is rich. A bowl of this in summer really sets you up.

The croaker is delicious, of course, but the amount that comes in the course is enormous. So much that you wonder whether you can actually finish it all. And even on a weekday afternoon the place was packed with old men settling in for a daytime drink, so without a reservation you are not getting in easily.. The walls are thin, but there are private rooms too, so it seems to serve as a clubhouse for the old-timers of Gangnam..
