I’d heard good things about the Nezu Museum, but when I hear “Nezu” I think of the Nezu in Yanaka-Nezu-Sendagi (just north of Ueno), and I kept wondering what museum there could possibly be in Nezu. Turns out it’s a museum in Aoyama. And Nezu is a person’s name, not a place name.
The Nezu Museum
It’s tucked a little way in from the main Aoyama streets. After all the times I’ve been to Aoyama, I had no idea the Nezu Museum was in a spot like this.
A spot like this
The entrance is striking, but from the entrance alone you’d never guess what’s inside.
Inside
The gallery space itself isn’t big. The exhibits, clocks and the like, were interesting, but photography wasn’t allowed. That’ll be because it’s a converted mansion.
Nezu
This, apparently, is Nezu. A railway magnate or something along those lines.

The Nezu Museum
In terms of sheer scale they’ve turned an entire wood into a garden, and the fact that a garden this size can exist in the middle of Tokyo is remarkable. It feels bigger than most gardens in Kyoto.
