Osaka USJ Trip Report part.6 Mario Cafe and Super Nintendo World

Super Nintendo World opened at USJ during the COVID years and it has been getting a lot of attention… but there were so many people that it was hard work.

Mario Cafe

This is a cafe you can just queue up for, and they sell Mario and Luigi cakes and drinks.

Cakes like this

They are shaped like Mario’s and Luigi’s caps, with the phrases “OKEY-DOKEY” and “WHOSE CAP?” on them. If you are a fan they are worth eating. Well, with something like this only one person in the family has to take one for the team in the queue and everyone gets a taste, so it is worth lining up…

On the way to Super Nintendo World

Somewhere like this

Super Nintendo World is arguably the most popular spot in all of USJ, and to get in you either have to book a timed entry ticket or buy an Express Pass. I entered the park around 9 in the morning and booked on the app the moment I was in, and the slot I got was 5:20 in the afternoon… And going in that late, it was not easy to enjoy it properly. I wanted to eat at the restaurants and ride the attractions, there was so much I wanted to do, but going in at 5 leaves you nowhere near enough time. If I go again I will have to plan a proper strategy… Stay at a nearby hotel and start queueing an hour before, maybe.

Bowser’s Castle

An attraction

It is an attraction where a train takes you on a lap around the World, but it was suspended because of the heavy rain.

The goods shop

There is a wide range of goods and the quality is good. Looking at the companies that supply them, they are all big names. Well, the prices are steep too, so they had better make sure of the quality.

Key hunting

Usj mario

To enjoy the content in Super Nintendo World you have to buy a watch-like device, which I think cost around 4,000 yen. You use it to collect the keys scattered around the World, and you need three or more before you can join the showdown with Bowser Jr. They really have built it so that you cannot enjoy it without spending money, and yet it is made so well that you cannot skip it either…

All sorts of caves

Usj mario

I struggled a bit gathering the keys, but in the end I fought Bowser Jr. and won.

Bowser’s Castle

Usj mario

I wanted to go inside the castle too, but I ran out of time and headed back. To do all of this I reckon you would have to go in at 9 and spend a good five or six hours…
