Makochan, an Izakaya in Shinbashi

Makochan is a great yakiton izakaya, but with COVID going on it was hard to justify a visit. Then I heard they were doing takeout, so I went and picked some up myself. If this is what it takes to eat something good, so be it.

Inside the shop

The takeout menu is only a fraction of what they actually serve in the shop. That was a bit of a shame.

Croquette

Makochan 202108

Decent enough.

Stir-fried pork and kimchi

Makochan 202108

This one was surprisingly good. Rich and greasy, I suppose you could say. The skewers here are fairly cheap, but the other dishes do add up. Still, you have to eat something like this once in a while.

Skewers

You can order shiro, tan, hatsu, harami, nankotsu, kashira and tori tsukune. Considering how many kinds of skewers this place grills, that is only a tiny fraction of them.

Karaage

Makochan 202108

This one is, well, pretty ordinary compared to a place that specializes in it.

Ham katsu

Makochan 202108

This one also just tastes like a drinking snack.

Gyoza

Makochan 202108

This one was so-so as well.

French fries

Makochan 202108

Decent enough. Everything was fine, but I am not sure any of it is worth making a special takeout trip for.

Barley tea

Makochan 202108

While I was waiting for my takeout they brought me a cup of tea. The service here really is good.

On the house

Makochan 202108

These are skewers they cannot do as takeout, so they gave me a couple to taste. The kind of flavor that makes you seriously crave a beer.

Kimchi on the house

Makochan 202108

Wait, kimchi on the house too? I did not remember this place having service this good. Once COVID settles down I will have to go back for a drink.
