You would think that with enough money you could get into any famous restaurant, but that is not really how it goes. Even at a few hundred thousand won a head, the popular places are hard to book. Covid has made it easier, at least.. which is why I have come to suspect that people who say money solves everything are people who have never actually had any.. anyway, back to the point.. I called around a bunch of famous restaurants, and even in the middle of a pandemic they told me they were already fully booked.. out of a few candidates, the one I settled on was Momoyama.
A view like this
Honestly, with a view this good, I started to wonder whether the food even matters. Was there ever another restaurant in Korea with a view like this..
The view
It also struck me that coming during the day beats coming for the night view.
The table
Inside
Apparently they do takeout as well.
A round from the tokkuri
The glass matches too
I think this was eihire, dried stingray fin.
The appetizer
I think it tasted fairly ordinary.
Suimono
Clean and crisp.
Sashimi
The sort of thing you eat lightly, as a snack with a drink.
Hanwoo
So-so..
Crab meat
Uni
The uni is really good. I think it was the most memorable thing of the day. At a restaurant of this level, uni of this quality is the least you should expect.
Tempura
Oyster rice
It is packed generously with oysters.
Dessert
Apart from the uni there was no dish that really stood out, and for something billed as authentic Japanese it does lean a little Korean, but they use good ingredients and stay faithful to the basics, so I came away satisfied. Add the service and the view on top of that and it has an edge over other Japanese restaurants. Even Ariake does not get a view like this.. If all you care about is the food I could not say, but for anyone weighing everything up and coming for a business dinner or a special occasion, I think it works out well.
