The things I ate just before heading to Madarao

In early 2020 I went to Madarao. I had no idea what kind of place it was before going, so I looked it up: it’s in Nagano Prefecture, the ski resort is the main attraction, and apparently a lot of skiers from Australia visit these days. It had been a while since I last skied, so I picked up gear in Makuhari, booked a place to stay, and all that was left was to actually go.

It’s bread, but..

Madaraho morning

There’s a place in Gotanda called Tokyo Doujiang Seikatsu, apparently famous back in Taiwan, with fantastic reviews and a long line out front. This is the bread I brought back from there.. the bread itself, though, well..

Sandwich

Sandwich

Madaraho morning

I think I bought these at Le Pain Quotidien, but I don’t really remember.

Mornings are busy, so we headed to the station first and picked up some ekiben.

Karaage

Madaraho morning

A cute chicken on the box..

Shark fin bento

Madaraho morning

It seemed unusual, so I gave it a try.

Taste-wise it was a pretty ordinary Chinese-style bento.

Madaraho morning

Well.. next time I should probably buy something else..

Bamboo shoot rice bento

Madaraho morning

Apparently it’s a bento made by Nakagawa in Gion, Kyoto..

Here’s what’s inside..

Madaraho morning

Well.. it was just okay.. good thing I bought the karaage separately..
