A roundup of the quick, simple things I ate.
Sukiya’s menma + chili oil gyudon
This one was pretty tasty. Some people can’t handle menma, but I like menma and I like chili oil, so..
Veggie sundae (Korean blood sausage)
It made a great late-night snack. But I can’t remember where I bought it, so I haven’t managed to get another one.
Odeng
I’ve bought and tried plenty of odeng (Korean fish cake), and Samho seems like the best to me, but is there a better choice out there?
Soft-boiled eggs
I saw a six-minute recipe on YouTube and gave it a go, but it looks like they need a little longer. Next time I’ll try six and a half minutes..
These days they’re making plant-based ramyeon..
The flavor is clean.
Jjawang non-fried noodles
People say they’re good.. but I couldn’t really tell the difference.. if anything I buy them because the portion is small..
Oil sardines
This is what they look like out of the jar.
Gwamegi (half-dried saury)
Somewhere, as a drinking snack..
Moktae (dried pollack)
The kind of thing you naturally end up eating when you’re in Korea..
A sundaeguk place in Cheongdam
The taste is nothing special, but it’s open 24 hours so it’s packed.
Sundaeguk like this
It’s a fair amount of food for a second-round stop. Better to come when you’re actually hungry.
Gochujang jjigae noodles
Well.. so-so..
Orange juice
This is b. patisserie in Garosu-gil.
Open sandwich
This kind of thing seems to be popular these days..
Whole drumstick curry
It was surprisingly good, and the drumstick was meaty too. I’d buy it again..
Majangmyeon
I can’t really tell what it does better than jjajangmyeon..
KFC Zinger burger
Junky.
Chicken nanban
I think this was lunch at a place in Hamamatsucho called Keishu.. the portions are substantial. It tastes good too, so it was always popular at lunchtime.
