Niku-Man, a yakiniku restaurant in Hamamatsucho

This post was written in 2020. Shop details and prices may have changed since then.

I’d been wandering all over in search of good yakiniku, and it turns out there was a great place right in my own neighborhood. It’s called Wagyu Itto-ryu Niku-Man, which basically means they buy a whole cow and use every part of it. Apparently they use akaushi, a breed from Kyushu — well, just hearing that much is enough of a guarantee.

The entrance

It’s in an alley right in front of Hamamatsucho Station.

On a budget of about 3,000 to 4,000 yen a head, you get to pick out only the good cuts. At this level I think you can safely call it a great place.

Lemon sour

Nikuman

A proper lemon sour.

The flavor is a sure thing, but if there’s a problem it’s that it’s just too fatty. Once a month feels about right. Any more often than that and I might get sick of it.

Shiitake

The house special, akaushi aburi jo-rosu — lightly seared premium loin

Nikuman

Well… it tastes fantastic. To think I only just found out a place like this was right nearby…

Oysters

Nikuman

The oysters are good too. Why are the oysters at a yakiniku place this good…

Ordered some sushi as well…

Horumon!

Nikuman

They do horumon well too.

Ice cream

Nikuman

Whenever I come to a yakiniku place I always end up ordering dessert…

Panna cotta

Nikuman

A cup of tea, too

A really satisfying meal.

This place has a not-quite-problem, and it isn’t unique to them… the seats are very close together. In COVID times like these that does make me a little uneasy. From now on I think I’ll have to check whether every place I go has proper COVID measures in place.

The menu follows, so have a read if you’re interested…
