Maybe because Japan has so many mountains, it has plenty of highlands too. Head up into the highlands and the scenery is somehow different, and with ranches around, the local ingredients are a bit different as well. On top of that it’s nice and cool, so it’s a great place to go when the weather is hot.. Maybe that’s why I keep ending up in Karuizawa.
Prince Shopping Plaza
It’s a big outlet mall. So big, in fact, that walking the whole thing takes a day and you end up having to give up on sightseeing, so it pays to budget your time well. It was Golden Week, so they had a lot of events on too.
The view
It looks like a painting. The sunlight may look harsh, but the air is cool and it feels wonderful.

Maybe because it stays cool here, the cherry blossoms are still in bloom
There is still snow left on the mountains in the distance.
A street in Karuizawa
A coffee shop in front of the Karuizawa shopping street
I can’t really say much about the taste, but even the cup looks like quality..
Street scenery in Karuizawa
An anime gallery
When I’m traveling I always get the urge to go into a place like this..
The place I went into to buy souvenirs
Karuizawa is famous for chestnuts. The chestnut roll cake had good reviews, so I went in to buy one.
