I heard Ginza Mitsukoshi was holding an ice cream expo for Golden Week in May. A really good shaved ice shop was going to have a stall there, so I went along.
Maison Givrée had a stall too.
A bit of a letdown, though, since they only had standard gelato.
It seems to be called “Aipaku”, short for ice cream expo (hakurankai) in Japanese.
I did eventually pick up the prize… but it was nothing special.

Limited-edition melon kakigori
They use perfectly ripe melon, and the flavor was fantastic. As you would expect from a high-end shaved ice shop, the ice melts the moment it hits your tongue. Which means you have to eat it fast, so I figured the best plan is to order one at a time, share it among a few people, and keep ordering more. Impossible given the line, though…
The rooftop garden
A space like this exists right in the middle of Ginza. The kids were running around to their hearts’ content.
New York Do, all the way from Nagasaki
They are known for ice cream made with castella, Nagasaki’s famous sponge cake.
I tried it and it was pretty good. But why New York, of all names…

I couldn’t live on ice cream alone, so I also bought sandwiches at Minori Cafe.
The taste was so-so…
