This is my regular lunch roundup. The really good places get their own posts, but the ones I just drop into now and then need to be collected like this.
Fried garlic topping and black curry
Takeout from a curry specialist with the funny name Curry wa Nomimono, which means curry is a drink. It sits in the basement of a building in front of Shinbashi Station and caters to office workers, with generous toppings and a pretty decent curry. From the name you would expect soup curry or something, but it is a very ordinary style with just a little kick.
Rice
Looks like jasmine rice. Takeout from the restaurants around Shinbashi usually comes in big enough portions to feed two or three people, so I might drop by now and then on weekends when I cannot be bothered to cook. It is only a 30-40 minute round trip by bicycle, too.
Hana Chabo, a dim sum place
For 800 yen you get a pretty generous spread of dim sum with congee included, and it was not bad at all. Seems like a good place to go when you are feeling run down..
Kyurin, a ramen shop in Odaiba
It is decent enough. You can never be too disappointed by a Rokurinsha affiliate.
Tendon
I think this was at the Telecom Center in Odaiba, and it is good for this neighborhood. A bit pricey, though..
Sashimi set at Uoya in Shinbashi
Tasty, but the portion felt a bit small.. Next time I should stick to places that serve bigger portions.
Beef kalbi bowl at Shotaien
This place is tasty too, but the portion is small..
Mapo tofu lunch at Gibier’s Market
A game meat specialist in Hamamatsucho that serves a lunch with pretty good value for money. Recommended..
Seseri-don
Seseri is the meat from around a chicken’s neck, mostly eaten at yakiniku places. It looks grotesque, but it is quite tasty. I had this at a place called Kurumaya in Hamasite.

Shima-saba
Takeout from Mawashizushi Katsu in Yokohama, eaten at home, and maybe because it is in season it was insanely good. I would have regretted not buying it. I originally ordered all sorts of things, but by the time I took a photo mid-meal this was all that was left.. Next time I have a reason to go to Yokohama I will have to get takeout again. Lining up takes a good two hours, but takeout is ready within 30 minutes..
Fried mackerel
I ordered this at Bamiyan, the Chinese family restaurant chain, and it was far better than I expected. So much so that I wondered if I had been snubbing it all this time. Fish really does seem to taste good anywhere in Japan.
