Japanese Konbini Food 2017

Japanese convenience stores are so cutting-edge that there’s always something new and curious, so you never get bored.

Nissin Cup Noodle Rich, abalone-flavoured oyster stew

combini 201706

Having tried all sorts of cup noodles, what I’ve come to feel is that some ingredients suit the cup-noodle genre well and others don’t. Seasoning-based flavours turn out fine, but when the ingredient itself matters, it’s hard for them to be truly tasty. In that sense, the abalone oyster one is on the decent side.

Aburu ze, Mentai. Cheese nose. (grilled mentaiko and cheese chips)

combini 201706

These potato chips came out as a limited edition. They’re chips topped with mentaiko and cheese, and they were surprisingly good. Since they were a convenience-store exclusive, they weren’t sold online either, so I couldn’t get them again, but I’m hoping they’ll come back next year. If not, oh well.

Nangoku Shirokuma

combini 201706

It’s packed with fruit, so I ate a lot of these this summer.

AFURI ramen

combini 201706

It looked tasty at first glance, and it was faithful to the original. Highly recommended.

Hanabatake Ranch strawberry frozen tart

combini 201706

It had a rather classy taste to it.
