Anagoya in Nonhyeon-dong, Revisited

Went back to Anagoya with friends. Since I’ve been carrying a bottle of whisky around, this is the only place in Gangnam I can think of with a cheap corkage fee. This time we went up to the newly opened third floor, and seeing it already full, you really get a sense of how popular Anagoya is in Gangnam.

Today’s whisky

anagoya

Bought this a while back but only just opened it. It’s a smooth whisky with a strong vanilla note, but it’s neither sweet nor punchy with peat, so it feels a little lacking. Well.. a whisky like this is meant to be savored slowly as it opens up, but we finished it the day it was opened, so I never got to see its true character..

Gooseneck barnacles

anagoya

Well.. they don’t taste like much.. but watch out, they squirt a lot of juice when you eat them.

The omakase spread

anagoya

We came back after such a short gap that it’s not much different from last time.

Whole steamed squid

anagoya

Are these rich squid innards something you can only eat in Korea.. I’ve never seen a place selling them in Japan.. Makes me wonder if I’d have to catch and cook them myself..

Grilled avocado

anagoya

Yukhoe (beef tartare)

anagoya

Scallops

anagoya

Scallops came out this time, which they hadn’t before. Maybe because it’s winter, the meat was sweet.

Fried rice

anagoya

Decent enough.

Yellowtail amberjack, I think..

anagoya

Anyway, a good meal.

Now that they have private rooms, it’s an even better place for a get-together. Part of it may be the holiday season, but seeing the place packed with customers, I guess Gangnam just never had a place with this concept before. I hope they keep doing well.
