2chef, Hongdae, for Round Two

After leaving Tuk Tuk we had to decide where to go for round two, and there are not that many places a big group can move on to. I called 2chef, my usual spot, and they had room, so we headed straight over.

A lot of people still had not had enough to drink, so I asked for something light to nibble on with wine, and a spread came out in no time. We ordered a bottle of wine too, but sadly I have no photo of it. Round one had gone so well that the mood carried right over into round two. It was such a good time that I can only apologise for turning the usually quiet 2chef into a noisy place.

Even though we had clearly eaten a huge amount in round one, everyone still did a fine job on the pasta. Impressive people, as always.

I opened a bottle of Bordeaux I had been saving for a while. Like every great Bordeaux that has reached its drinking window, it showed beautifully. There are plenty of cheaper wines that go down easily, but a wine with real personality, one that shows its own character this clearly, has a charm all its own. The downside is that to appreciate the personality of a wine like this, you have to have drunk a lot of other wines first..

2chef is a place I have a lot of memories of, and they told me they will be closing soon. I do not know where they will move to next, but I hope it goes well for them.

Round two wrapped up without incident, and for round three we split up; I went with a few people to Angel’s Share. It was too cold to use the lounge, so a big group could not all go at once.

We had a clean, crisp drink, chatted about this and that, and then headed home.

Yeonnam-dong is such a charming neighbourhood, and it is remarkable that it has not been ruined overnight the way Garosu-gil was. I am telling myself to visit as often as time allows from now on. (Though this year will probably be a stretch.)
