Bistro Polpo, Bangbae-dong, Back-to-Back Visits

Going back to the same place again and again has to mean the food is that satisfying. The people I bring change every time, but they all say they are happy with it, so I cannot stay away.

Spanish beer

bistro polpo

I wanted something light to drink that day, so I asked if they had a decent beer, and they recommended this one. Not just the label design, the taste was good too.

Organic apple juice

bistro polpo

I ordered a juice, and even the juice was really good. They never let you down, right down to the smallest details.

The new menu

bistro polpo

The proper menu is finally out. Looking through it, there were a few dishes I had not seen before.

Edamame

bistro polpo

Boiled soybeans, the kind you often snack on with beer in Japan. It had been a while, so they tasted even better.

Caprese with Jeju mozzarella

bistro polpo

I think it was my first time seeing it on the menu, so I ordered it. It seemed firmer than regular mozzarella, with a texture all its own. I had no idea a caprese this good was possible in Korea.

Well-seared hanwoo beef with ponzu

bistro polpo

This dish is not on the regular menu; I ordered it specially. They told me hanwoo beef of the quality this dish needs is too expensive to put on the menu. It is a classic Japanese-style yakiniku dish, meat dripping with fat that you dip in ponzu and wasabi sauce, and there is no way it could taste bad. I was so grateful they prepared it specially for me.

House wine

bistro polpo

Once the meat came out, I could not skip the wine. So I asked for some, and for a house wine it was really good. As always, Polpo never lets you down, not even on the smallest item.

Bread

bistro polpo

Bread comes with olive oil, and that alone makes a fine dish.

Eggplant gratin

bistro polpo

Out came a gratin packed to the brim. Great with drinks.

Blue crab pasta

bistro polpo

It was on the menu again that day, so there was just no way I could not order it. Superb, of course.

Egg sandwich with truffle oil

bistro polpo

The chef said it is what he eats instead of breakfast, and gave it to us on the house. It does not show well in the photo, but the soft, fluffy egg was loaded with truffle oil. A bewitching egg sandwich; you cannot help falling for that seductive aroma. Even in Japan I have never had an egg sandwich made with this little regard for ingredient costs.

Iced coffee

bistro polpo

Pair it with a strong iced coffee and the satisfaction doubles.

Ginger tea

bistro polpo

Finishing with a warm cup of tea, I had another near-perfect gourmet experience that day.

It is a place that satisfies every time, so I am always looking for a chance to go back; the only pity is that I am too busy to go often. Sob.. Once the work I am on now wraps up, the days of showing up back to back will come again. Until then, I will keep running hard.
