One weekend in July, I had no plans at all and didn’t even know the event was on, but somehow I ended up at the Seoul Auto Salon. It’s not that I’m particularly into racing models, and while I do get the urge to shoot model photos now and then, that’s not why I went either.. there was a purely personal reason.
Those who know me know that I actually started my photography career with portraits. These days I rarely get to shoot people, so my skills have gone rusty, and I’m reduced to shooting models at events like this once in a while. If anyone is interested in model photos, get in touch. I’m confident I can take good ones.. ahem..

I didn’t know this until I got there, but two booths were the hot spots: one called CAMMSYS and one called HANDS. The moment the doors opened, a huge crowd rushed in.

I went in a casual mood this time, so I left the strobe and the 85mm lens at home and shot light with just the 31mm. The photos feel more like snapshots than portraits, but I think that’s fine in its own way. It might be a kind of self-justification, though.

She’s probably the most popular racing model in Korea right now. She was so massively popular that I never got a proper chance to shoot her.

The girl with the cute little tummy~ Her smile is so natural, which makes her all the more memorable.

The competition was so fierce that I nearly collapsed trying to get a single shot. It reminded me all over again just how hard it is to take a photo you’re actually happy with.
