Hyottoko, in the basement of the Ginza Kotsu Kaikan building, serves some of the best shio ramen in Tokyo. I happened to have some shopping to do in Ginza, and with an awkward gap in my schedule I stopped in for a light bowl of ramen. In a way, I guess I got lucky.
Hyottoko
It is a tiny place, but the line is always long. The old man I had seen here before was still hard at work making ramen. He looked surprisingly healthy, so it seems there will be no problem coming back for ramen for a good few more years.
Yuzu shio ramen
Last time I ordered the chashu-men and got so much chashu I nearly burst, so this time I just went with the yuzu shio ramen. As you can see, the flavour is top-level for Tokyo.
The noodles
Thin noodles that go perfectly with shio ramen. It was really nice to be back.
The plan that day was to grab a quick bowl of ramen and then have something proper at night, but my schedule got tangled up and I ended up back at the hotel just drinking beer. Well, some days are like that.
