I heard there was a place in Itaewon selling tasty Vietnamese-style banh mi sandwiches, so I went to check it out. With places like this, the best time to go is while people are still just saying it is good. Once it gets popular, who knows what happens..
The front of Rye Post
Get off at Itaewon Station and head toward the market and it is right there. It is not that far, but I still managed to get a bit lost.
Avocado salad
The kind of salad you get at any ordinary cafe. It is cheap, but the portion seems to be exactly what you pay for.
Banh mi sandwich
The bread is good and the filling is more substantial than it looks. Best of all, the cilantro goes really well with the pork marinated in an ethnic sauce, so it never feels heavy. I happen to like cilantro, of course, but I think even people who hate it could handle this one just fine. It has a more addictive flavor than a regular sandwich, and I had no idea a sandwich could taste like this. Sorry for underestimating Vietnam.
The filling
The atmosphere is casual, so I am not sure about it as a brunch spot, but it seemed perfect for a light meal with a glass of beer. This visit was so satisfying that I will have to come back when I get the chance and try the other things on the menu.
