The Garosu-gil branch of Tuppul Deungsim had crowds of bloggers dropping by and posting reviews right around its opening, so there is nothing new I can add at this point. A regular food blogger would not go ahead and post something this stale with no new content, but I only post as a record for myself, so here it is, nothing special, written up in rough form.
The meat
Lots of marbling does not automatically mean delicious, but when the meat is fresh, the taste naturally follows. It was a step above Sungui Garden, where I had been not long before. Of course you also have to factor in atmosphere and service, so it is not a one-to-one comparison. The prices here are reasonable and the atmosphere is nice, but you grill the meat yourself. That keeps your hands a bit busy if you want to chat while you eat. Rather than the so-and-so Garden kind of concept, this is a place for a casual get-together with people you are comfortable with.
Doenjang jjigae
The meal dishes are high quality too.
Side dishes
It was the weekend, so lots of families were coming in. The teppan grill did not seem to be running during the day, but it was a nice, easygoing atmosphere for simply grilling some meat.
Nurungji
Nurungji is more of a dessert than a meal.
Kimchi-mari guksu
I was full, but I still finished the noodles.
The counter table where they do the teppan grilling
Looks like they do not do it at lunch.
Tuppul Deungsim is neat and tidy in both its food and its atmosphere, as you would expect from a Gangnam meat place. The prices are decent too, so it is a competitive spot. You could even call it a meat place ahead of the changing times. With a concept this good, no wonder business is going well. My only regret is that I do not have many occasions to eat meat these days, so I probably will not be going often.
