I headed out to Kichijoji over the weekend. It is far from home, but every now and then I end up with a reason to go. The first stop was Satou, famous for its menchikatsu.
The front of Satou
The second floor is a steakhouse, and the ground floor sells meat along with menchikatsu and croquettes. Being a Kichijoji landmark, the line is long. Off to one side a crew from what looked like a foreign TV station was doing interviews.
Menchikatsu and croquette
I bought one of each of the house specialties.
A menchikatsu bursting with juices
Maybe it is because I ate it fresh out of the fryer after standing in line, but it is incomparably better than your average menchikatsu. I nearly burned the roof of my mouth, which brought back the scene in Kodoku no Gourmet Season 1 where Goro happily wolfed one down. It is greasy, though, so I doubt I could eat too many.
Croquette filled with potato
It was packed with potato and decent in its own right, but it could not match the impact of the menchikatsu. If I get a chance to come back, I think I will go straight for the menchikatsu.
