Over the New Year holidays I had a chance to go to the Gotemba Premium Outlets. While wondering where to have lunch, I went with the safe bet, Uogashi Sushi. It is a popular place – or rather, there are not many decent places to eat inside the Gotemba Premium Outlets – so I got there early and lined up.
Crab miso soup
Half a crab goes in whole. The shell was packed with meat, so picking it out was good fun too.
Chutoro
Starting with the toro.. it was decent enough.
Negitoro rolls and crab salad rolls
It is a conveyor belt sushi place, so you have to have some easygoing maki too.
Engawa
Nice firm flesh. I do not think I can go back to 100-yen sushi anymore.
Anago
Tastes better than it looks. Melts in your mouth.
Three kinds of aburi
Salmon, sea bream and horse mackerel. Being winter, the fish is nicely fatty. Again, it looks pretty ordinary, but the taste is quite good.
Squid
It is just squid, but with freshness this good even a cheap topping tastes great. The flesh had a nice chewy bite.
Mackerel
The mackerel was nice and fatty too.
Aburi yellowtail with salt and green onion
It is winter, so you have to order yellowtail too.
Shrimp
The shrimp had a nice firm bite as well. Sushi places like this prepare their toppings in bulk in the morning, so coming as early as possible seems to be the secret to getting good sushi.
Tamago
A sushi meal always ends with tamago.
After eating all this it came to about 1,600 yen per person, so the price was reasonable too.
