Echigoya, a Charcoal-Grill Specialist in Hamamatsucho

When I head out for lunch in Hamamatsucho, there are two restaurants that always have a line. One is Echigoya, where I went this time, and the other is a place called Yamaya that serves all-you-can-eat mentaiko (spicy cod roe). The line at Yamaya is unbelievably long all through lunchtime, so I decided to go to Echigoya, which is comparatively easy to get into.

Seared Daisen chicken breast teishoku

The basic lunch menu is a regular teishoku with one extra a-la-carte item added. I went for the one where they serve rare chicken with just the surface lightly seared.

The quality is outstanding, and the portion is generous too.

Cut open with the scissors

The meat is pink inside. It has been a while since I had chicken this good.

Saba

echigoya

It is really a fish place more than a meat place, so they offer a variety of grilled fish. Dried mackerel grilled over charcoal turns out pretty tasty.

Sanma

It is in season, so I ordered it, but the portion is a bit small.

The line was so long that I hesitated over whether to go in, but the place exceeded my expectations. It seems to be a chain, since I see Echigoyas with similar names and atmosphere here and there, but the menu itself is fairly simple, so I would guess it tastes about the same wherever you eat.
