The place we went for a last dinner together with my Japanese friends was Miro Sikdang, a tasty Korean gastropub in Hongdae. They don’t take reservations, so we set out early, and maybe we were lucky – a table opened up right away.
The basic menu
A salad comes out first. I suppose you have to warm up gently before you can order this and that..
Seafood and chive pancake
It looks substantial every time I see it. It is on a completely different level from an ordinary Korean pancake, starting with the way it looks. It was a good chance to show my Japanese friends that Korean food this good exists too. There is nowhere in Shin-Okubo that does it this well.
Miro grilled bulgogi
As expected, a menu that goes perfectly with drinks.
The seasoned vegetables that came with it
They say meat has to be eaten with vegetables if you want to look after your health..
Max draft beer
I watched closely to see how they poured the beer, and it turns out there is a machine that makes just the foam separately. Might be nice to have one at home..
Seasoned whelks and grilled Spam
This is the signature menu.
HWAYO cocktail
That day it felt a little out of step with the food and the mood. I guess a cocktail just does not suit a night out with the guys.
Spicy fried chicken
We felt a bit short on food to go with the drinks, so we ordered it. Almost everything on this place’s menu is good, so I ordered without worrying, and just as expected it is delicious.
Whole poached squid
Maybe because I happen to know Ma-x-bi, a regular here, they sent this out on the house. I am simply grateful.
Bacon mung bean pancake
It is thick and tasty. Catching exactly the point where the flavour lands is probably Miro Sikdang’s strength.
For the third round we went to Factory as always, but it is such a dark place that I have no photos. The owner of Factory said he had recently opened a small shop selling single malt glasses – I wonder how business is going.
