Second stop on my naengmyeon pilgrimage. Anyone who knows, knows: this place is hugely famous in this genre, but I never had any reason to go to Chungmuro, so I just hadn’t made it here until now.
The front
I’ve seen this exact view in photos so many times, for so long, that it almost feels like I’ve already been. I went outside lunch hour, and it was still packed.
Mandu
A bit better than Seobuk Myeonok’s. Fuller and cleaner-tasting.
Myeonsu (noodle water)
The standard opener.
Mul-kimchi (water kimchi)
Nicely done.
Naengmyeon
It feels like the mild, subtle broth is finished off by the chili flakes. Some people apparently can’t understand why chili flakes go in, though. The noodles are true to proper Pyeongyang naengmyeon too. It’s very high-level naengmyeon. The only problem is that getting all the way to Chungmuro is a hassle… If it were in Jongno I’d have plenty of reasons to drop by. But even if I can’t come often, a place like this does great business, so there’s no need to worry about it.
