Naniwa Sushi is one of my favourite sushi places. I came by again this time, but the weather was bad, so the meal wasn’t as good as I’d hoped. Honestly, it’s a bit of a lottery. It’s cheap and delicious, so there’s nothing you can do about it. If I get the chance to go back, I’ll make sure to eat well next time.

Otoshi

Looks like simmered tuna.

Snow crab sushi

I seem to be eating crab a lot lately. Raw snow crab meat on top. It’s sticky and sweet and clings to your mouth.

Chutoro

They said it was bincho (albacore) toro, but whatever the kind, it’s delicious.

Buri

Nice and fatty, right in season.

Squid

Topped with salt. A pretty ordinary neta.

Uni

It melts softly. They say real uni tastes of the sea, but I still don’t quite get what that means.

Aji

Ordinary. That day there really was nothing special apart from the crab.

Anago

The sauce is a bit sweet.

Akagai

This one was kind of ordinary too…

Akami

It came in two layers, but it wasn’t as good as I expected.

Aburi salmon

The searing felt a little light…

Unagi

This place does unagi as well as an unagi specialist. It never disappoints.

Maki

They really didn’t need to give me this…

Geso

After a light meal like this, I moved on to the next place. No nodoguro, no abalone, no sazae… It was a real letdown, but if the boats didn’t go out, there’s nothing you can do. The weather around here isn’t great in winter. A shame, but I’ll have to hope for next time.
