I had a business trip to Korea at the end of May. It was a very short trip, so I didn’t have much time and couldn’t really fit in any good restaurants, but on a weekend morning I carved out a little time and went with a friend to Yukkal in Yongsan.
Yukkal is so famous around here that I’m sure most of you know it already. I’ve been going to Yongsan for about 14 years now, and I’ve only just found out this place exists. When I actually went, it turned out to be quite a way from the Yongsan Electronics Market. If I’d known sooner I’d have gone often, so it’s a bit of a shame.

It’s really shabby for how popular it is. I’d heard rumors of people queuing for tens of minutes, but although the place was packed, we got in without waiting.
Kalguksu
Two portions came out at once. The noodles are ordinary kalguksu noodles. I eat a lot of noodles as it is ^_^ and on top of that I’d had Inaniwa udon not long ago, so noodles at this level didn’t particularly move me.
Yukgaejang
It was pretty spicy. My friend said it was really good, but it seems I can’t handle spicy food anymore… I guess my taste buds will only go back to normal once I start living in Korea again. At first I tried eating it like tsukemen -_-;; but that doesn’t really work. It was better eaten just like regular kalguksu.
Side dishes
Not bad at all, but as expected, a bit spicy.
It was a fairly big meal for a weekend lunch. To be honest, I’d eaten a hearty meal at home three hours earlier, and two hours after this I went to a wedding and ate again… -_-;; If I hadn’t had anything else scheduled I could have enjoyed it at leisure, so it’s a bit of a pity this time. That’s what a hectic business trip does. Next time I’ll try to go with more time to spare.
