After leaving Yoshino Sushi I was still so hungry that I decided to hit another sushi place nearby. It’s been a while since I did two meals back to back. I don’t usually go that far, but that day I was really craving it. When I’m in good shape I eat and drink quite a lot, and lately, for some reason, I’ve been having a lot of good days.

Kind of old-fashioned, isn’t it? It doesn’t look like a hugely popular place with crowds lining up. It’s a stone’s throw from Tokyo Station, so it’s easy to get to, but it feels like a sushi shop mostly used by people who live and work around here. The server was a young Chinese woman. Her Japanese was a little awkward, though we had no real trouble communicating..
This is the 1,050-yen lunch set.

The rice portions are big. The rice and the neta feel a bit disconnected, but for the price it’s not bad. They say if you ask for less rice when you order, they’ll do it. I’ll have to eat it that way next time. As you can probably tell, it’s crude compared with Yoshino Sushi, which I’d eaten just before. Still, I had a filling, tasty meal. The anago in particular, which seems to be the house specialty, was if anything better than Yoshino Sushi’s, certainly no worse.

Ugh.. still, the tamago sushi at Yoshino Sushi was a real work of art. It came back to me again.

Dessert

Not bad. For a thousand yen, that’s good. It’s definitely not good enough to be worth a trip from far away.. But the thousand-yen sushi isn’t all this place has. It has quite a few secret weapons up its sleeve. This time I only went to get a feel for the place, so next time I’ll round up some people and eat properly. That said, don’t let the 1,000-yen lunch lull you: this is by no means a cheap place. I think you’d need to go with a group of middle-aged folks who are ready to spend a fair bit of money and in the mood to enjoy themselves to really eat well here.
