I got back from Fukuoka early and wandered around the streets of Hiroshima. The main reason? This!
The Legend of Ultraman exhibition
It was on at the Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum. I’m a fan of the Ultraman series. With Mebius in 2006 the story got a bit heavy and serious, more than you’d expect from a kids’ tokusatsu show, and the series since then has blended the original Ultraman feel with new-wave-style visuals and turned into genuinely good tokusatsu. This exhibition did a nice job laying out the whole history of the series, starting from the original 1966 Ultraman… though most of the visitors were kids holding their parents’ hands…

Hiroshima is surrounded by mountains on all sides, so from up on a mountain you can take in the whole city at a glance.

It’s a cozy, compact city. Not much of a cutting-edge or buzzing vibe… still, it’s the liveliest city in the area.
Downtown at night
Maybe because it was Sunday night, downtown was quiet. Streetcars still run along the tracks down the middle of the road. It’s a sight unique to Hiroshima.

I’d parked illegally behind Peace Memorial Park ^_^ so I ended up taking this on the way home. It came out a little shaky…
