There is a bakery called Ppangeul Jipda (literally “picking up bread”) over in Gongdeok, or Aeogae, and honestly, going by the name alone I assumed it would be somewhere like Ppanggumteo. Turns out it was not..
The entrance
The logo does look a bit like a place that sells red bean buns..
But this is the sort of bread they were selling..
Sourdough, rye bread, whole wheat bread, and so on..
The breads that had already sold out
The chocolate baguette is especially famous, and apparently it is gone within about 30 minutes of opening. I hear you have to get there by 8 if you want one..
The breads
They also have scones, egg tarts, salt bread and more.
Delivery
They do delivery well, so it must be handy for people living around here.
Anyway, the rye bread here has that nutty, toasty style, and I liked it quite a lot. The other breads were good too, so they clearly know what they are doing. I would say this is a textbook example of a Korean-style sourdough bakery.
