Bucheon has a lot of good Chinese restaurants. Or rather, Incheon has plenty of old-school Chinese restaurants too, so you could see Bucheon as an extension of that. Hyangwon is famous for its very long lines, thanks to recommendations from a bunch of influencers.

If you didn’t know the place, you’d have a hard time figuring out where the entrance even is.

Maybe because it’s such a busy Chinese restaurant, the table gets set up in no time.

Gan jjajang

I was told this is the house specialty. If there had been two of us I would have ordered jjajang, jjamppong and tangsuyuk too, but going alone, one jjajang is my limit. Anyway, the taste is really good. If you like a more intense flavor you might find it lacking, but it’s an easy-to-eat style like Sinseonggak, so I was very satisfied.. In fact, this kind of balance is not easy to reproduce even if you try making gan jjajang at home.. When you make it at home, it tends to come out punchy rather than balanced.. The fragrant deep-fried egg went well with the jjajang too..

Rice and egg soup, self-serve and free

I didn’t know about this, but the egg soup was good, so I should have had another bowl.

Anyway, I enjoyed the meal, but I do wonder whether it’s really worth standing in a line like that.. Still, seeing young couples lining up to eat here, it seems Korean-style Chinese food culture will carry on to the next generation, which is a relief.

It seems the main menu item is something called jimifan (chicken rice), with the pies as a side. It looks like proper Chinese restaurants are on the rise in this neighborhood too.

There’s not a hint of durian flavor.. I shouldn’t have ordered it.. My poor money..

Mixue

It’s an ice cream chain that started in China and is famous in Southeast Asia too, and I took a photo because it was a novelty. Can’t believe it’s come to Korea too.. I thought about trying it, but I had the cheese pie, and honestly the menu was so big I had no idea what to order. Next time I pass by, I’ll just get a soft-serve or something.
