We had a year-end gathering at Grill Demi Glace in Chungmuro.
It is on the first floor of a hotel.
This place looked like it had a lovely atmosphere. I went once a very long time ago and then did not make it back for ages, but they have moved to a new spot and business seems to be going well.
Seafood salad
Tasty. They really do know what they are doing..
Cream pasta
I was a little surprised when proper Italian food showed up. The taste is top notch, of course, but this is not just a plain western restaurant; they seem to be chasing all sorts of flavors. It was a day with a special year-end menu, so that probably made it all the more so.
Braised pomfret
The size of the pomfret was no joke. The flesh is creamy. To think a western restaurant would put out Korean food this good..
Kkakdugi
I even found myself thinking the flavor might go well with Italian food..
Morning bread and potato salad
This is the signature dish of the house. A flavor that fills your whole mouth, I suppose..
Grilled abalone
They use really big abalone here.
Tomato and eggplant gratin
Something like this is a really good match for wine.
Cream shrimp gratin
This one was good too.
Fried shrimp
A staple of any western restaurant. With shrimp this size, there is no way it could taste bad. Springy and juicy.
Steamed skate
How do they keep bringing out dishes this good..
Baekkyung Hyangmijugok, Christmas special edition
I brought it along wondering how it would work with western food the way wine does, and it turned out well. The bottle shape for the year-end special is pretty, and the refined taste and aroma were lovely. That said, I did think the drier Baekkyung White might have been a better match for rich western food.
Hamburg steak
A staple of any western restaurant. The demi-glace sauce was good too.
Yuxiang donggu
Chinese food, all of a sudden.. The chef is not just good at western food; Korean, Chinese, it makes no difference, he does it all well. With skill like this I think he could go on Culinary Class Wars..
Cremiel’s stollen
I have tried all kinds of stollen, but I think the best of this year might be Cremiel’s. Which is exactly why Cremiel’s stollen is not easy to get hold of each year. A strong cinnamon aroma, packed full of nuts, a bit of an apple pie feel to it; it is a stollen that is intuitively delicious.
Cremiel stollen
The design is pretty too, so it would make a good gift.
Inside
A clean hotel restaurant atmosphere.
Wine
A properly hotel-like atmosphere.
The chef at Demi Glace has serious skill, so we got to eat extremely well.
