Idaebang, where I end up day after day..
Soup
It’s brewed from a tea bag, which is convenient at least.
Side dishes
No matter how I look at it, this feels Korean-style..
Stir-fried meat
Perfect with rice. The rice is good too, so it just kept going down.
Something like dongpo pork..
This is tasty too.
Stir-fried garlic chives
Delicious.
Century egg and green peppers
The century egg is really good.. It comes in something like an earthen pot, and it seems to be a dish that has to be made in its own special vessel..
Fish dish
The red is almost scary, but it’s exactly right for a Korean palate..
Was this pork..
This one is decent too, and it came with something like congealed blood.
Stir-fried vegetables
You have to mix heavy and light dishes when you order.. I guess that’s the kind of know-how you only pick up by coming often..
Anyway.. here’s the problem: when ordering at a Chinese restaurant, people order more than one dish per person. Like eight dishes for five people? But can you actually eat all of that? Hardly. You end up leaving food, which is perfectly natural for Chinese people, but Koreans feel bad about leaving food that way, so we just keep eating.. In other words.. to survive in China you need the habit of leaving a reasonable amount behind.. and that turned out to be really hard.. Decades of habit don’t get fixed by a few trips..
